HAVRE - Alice Josephine (Brenden) Velk,
98, who homesteaded north of Havre with her husband, enjoyed sewing,
crocheting, gardening and decorating, and was involved with the Eagles,
Democratic Women, 4-H and Farmers Union, died of a stroke Sunday at her home
Holland and Bonine Funeral Home of Havre is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Josephine (Brenden) Velk of Havre,
98, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in her home of a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with Rowlie Hutton officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetary. A luncheon will follow the service.
Alice was born Aug. 1, 1909, to Amund and Cecelia (Hagen) Brenden in Northwood, N.D. She attended Black Diamond School and the Amos School in rural north Havre, where she met Thomas Velk. They were married in Havre at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church on Jan. 14, 1928. Alice, a farmer, housewife and great cook, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and decorating. She was involved with the Eagles, Democratic Women, 4-H and Farmers Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas, on Jan. 11, 2000; daughter Doris Velk Patrick, and sister, Maxine Holtzheimer.
Alice is survived by sons, Thomas B. Velk of Great Falls, Richard Velk of north Havre; Pete Velk of north Havre and Vincent (Shirley) Velk of Havre; daughters, Joyce Velk Woodward of Malston, Wash., Bettey Velk Hankins of Carter, Iris Velk of Havre and Audrey Velk Cox of south Chinook; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren.
