Charlie R. Conerton      1913 - 1997

  Charlie R. Conerton, 83, of Miller, S.D., died Monday, April 21, 1997, at his home in Miller.

  Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 24, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with the Rev. Michael McCallum officiation. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at Reck Funeral Home in Miller.

  Charlie Richard Conerton was born June 3, 1913 to John Walter and Mabel Bell (Thomas) Conerton at Britt, Iowa. He was the eighth child in the family.

  He moved with his family to South Dakota in 1919 and later moved to a farm in Hand County. He farmed for several years and moved to Miller in the early fifties. He served as Hand County Auditor for 16 years.

  He married Marguerite Hanna on September 2, 1941. She died August 4, 1977. He was united in marriage to Stella Hammill June 18, 1988.

  He loved life and was a friend to everyone. He was very devoted to his family and church and always willing to extend a helping hand whenever needed. He was an active member of the Senior Citizens Center and always looked forward to the Friday night dances.

  He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife Stella; one son, John Conerton of Rochester, Minn.; three grandchildren; one step daughter, Jeanie Hammill (Gary)  Hartman of Piere; two step-granddaugters; four step-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; two daughter-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one daughter, Mary Erbauer, five brothers and five sisters.

  Pallbearers will be George Mogle, Ray Pietz, David Johnson, Eldon Bouren, Bud Puffer and Gene Smith.

  Honorary pallbearers will be all his coffee buddies.
