James H. Latray

   James H. Latray, 83, of Lewistown, died suddenly Thursday afternoon, March 30, at the Central Montana

Medical Center.

   James was born in Great Falls, Sept. 2, 1911 to Frank and Margaret Latray. He moved to Lewistown at an

early age. On October 11, 1936, he was united in marriage to Shirley O'Connell in Lewistown.

   He was employed by Lewistown Transfer Company and later worked for the City of Lewistown at the

civic center, where he was the custodian. He retired about 20 years ago.

   Jim enjoyed all sports and for many years, he umpired the little league and men's and women's softball teams.

He was called "Ump" by many. He was very well liked. He attended St. Leo's School in Lewistown.

   He is survived by his wife of Lewistown; a son, Dean Latray of Billings; a daughter, Gloria Coleman of Lewistown; a niece, who he raised as a daughter, Julie Osterberg of Seattle; a brother, Leo Latray of Plains, Mont.; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Mary Ann Latray and James Latray Jr., a granddaughter, and a sister.

   Funeral services will be held at the Creel Funeral Chapel Monday, April 3, at 10am. Father Jay Peterson will be officiating. Cremation will take place following the services.

   Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
