Obituary - Mrs. George Matthews


    Mrs. George Matthews, aformer well known and highly respected resident of this town and vivinity, diedat her home in Toronto, Saturday of last week, after a long illness from hearttrouble and complications. She was in her 74th year. Her maiden name was MaryMachesney.

     She was married in 1885 to Mr. George Matthews of Glenelg andafter their marriage they farmed for a time on the present T.V. Bell Farm. Later they came to Durham, where Mr. Matthews was employed at the cement works. They lived subsequently at St. Mary's, later in Detroit and then moved to San Diego, California, where they resided some seventeen years. They returned to Canadaseven years ago and have since lived in Toronto.

       Surviving besides Mr.Matthews, are 3 sons, Robert J. in Detroit, James in the state of Washington,Harold in Tara, and 4 daughters, Mrs.M.H.Faust(Janet) and Mrs.N.R.Raleigh in California, Mrs.Harry Wolfe(Georgina) and Mrs.Bert Montgomery(Annie) in Detroit.All were present at the funeral excepting James and Mrs. Raleigh.

       Surviving also, are five brothers, Joseph and George Machesney in Toronto, James inElmwood; John in Owen Sound, william in Hanover and two sisters, Mrs. J.J. Lambof Fort Williams and Mrs. Samuel Langrill in Hanover.

       The funeral washeld Monday afternoon to Durham Cemetary, the service being conducted by Rev M.H.H.Farr of Trinity Anglican Church.
